Works Biography
Born in Calvados, Normandy in 1926, Jacques Bouyssou is an only child. His father was an art dealer in Honfleur and introduced his son from an early age to great artists such as Othon Friesz, Raoul Dufy, Lagar Leprin who would become his mentors. He also met Moise Kisling, Fernand Leger and Ossip Zadkine.
Bouyssou studied architecture in Troyes, France and worked with the sculptor Janin before moving to Paris where he became a student of Othon Friesz and Lucien Simon at the Academy of La Grande Chaumière.
His talent as painter is reknowned and his very first exhibition was in London in 1955.
The following year, Katia Granoff organised an exhibition at her gallery in Paris and it was the start of a long relationship.
He became official French Marine artist in 1973. His works are shown in the Museum of Marine artists in Paris.
